Mable Elmore
Beginning a series of programs meeting the candidates of Vancouver Kensington, Joseph Planta talks to BC NDP incumbent Mable Elmore about the election campaign, the issues and more.
Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:
I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver at TheCommentary.ca.
The provincial election is Tuesday, 14 May 2013. This is the third election campaign where I’ve invited all the candidates in the riding of Vancouver Kensington to come on the program and chat about the issues and more. Clockwise, the riding’s northern borders are 16th to Fraser, and Kingsway to Nanaimo; its eastern border is Nanaimo Street to 49th Avenue; 49th Avenue south to Main Street, and up Main from 49th to 16th Avenue. This year, like in 2005 and 2009, I’ve extended invitations to all four candidates running, and as of this hour, I’m scheduled to talk to the BC Liberal candidate, and hope to arrange times to speak to the BC Conservative and Green Party candidates.
In studio now is the incumbent Member of the Legislative Assembly, Mable Elmore. First elected in 2009, Ms. Elmore has served as the NDP critic for multiculturalism, child care and early learning, and was the deputy finance critic, and critic for ICBC. Among other achievements include campaigning against the HST. We’ll reflect on the past four years and look ahead to this campaign. We’ll also talk about the issues that constituents have suggested to her are concerns in the riding and throughout the province. Ms. Elmore made history with her election to the legislature as the first BC MLA of Filipino heritage. I think we talked about that when she was on four years ago during the last campaign. She has worked as a transit operator, a union activist and a community leader. The website for more is at www.mableelmore.bcndp.ca. Please welcome back to the Planta: On the Line program, Mable Elmore; Ms. Elmore, good morning.
