Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:
I am Planta: On the Line. In Vancouver, this is THECOMMENTARY.CA.
There’s a new book out that a delightful read. It’s an impressive book from a first-time author, Adventures in Solitude: What Not to Wear to a Nude Potluck and Other Stories from Desolation Sound. The broadcaster Grant Lawrence offers timeless, fascinating, and colourful stories in this book. He discusses his childhood and the property in Desolation Sound that his parents bought when he was a young boy. It discusses his relationship with the area, and those memorable people he encounters still. It is a book because it takes place in Desolation Sound, in BC’s Sunshine Coast, that is uniquely Canadian, and uniquely British Columbia. Grant Lawrence hosts the popular CBC Radio 3 Podcast with Grant Lawrence, as well as Grant Lawrence Live on CBC Radio 3 and Sirius 86. He’s also heard on various programs on CBC Radio One. He does a good job in taking this area and placing it in context geographically and historically. It’s often funny too. The book Adventures in Solitude is from Harbour Publishing. His website is at www.grantlawrence.ca. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, Grant Lawrence; Good morning, Mr. Lawrence.
