One of India’s best known writers Amitav Ghosh, joins me now from here in Vancouver to discuss his latest novel, Sea of Poppies. It was recently shortlisted for the Booker Prize, and the reviews have been quite favourable. It has been described as sweeping and a masterpiece. Set just before the Opium Wars, we see a tumultuous journey across the Indian Ocean by an old slave ship, the Ibis. From the Ganges to China and points in between, we see a number of vast characters and a view of this colonial world. Sea of Poppies is published by Viking and retails for $29.00.
