Text of the introduction by Joseph Planta:
I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, British Columbia, at TheCommentary.ca.
Renée Sarojini Saklikar joins me again. She’s just published the third installment of her epic fantasy saga in verse, The Heart of This Journey Bears All Patterns (THOT J BAP), Bramah’s Discovery: Book 3. It’s the year 2110, and Brahma’s journey to discover her origins continue. As the world around her faces ecological and economic calamity, the story moves with time travel. Her friend Amahl the Beggar is trapped in the Eternal Game of Climate Chess. We see the story move to Baghdad and Paris. We see the devastation of climate change, and through the book is a meditation on good and evil, and the choices that even our heroes have to make. Renée Sarojini Saklikar is the author off five books including the award-winning children of air india, and Listening to the Bees. Her essays and short fiction have appeared in literary magazines and anthologies, including Exile Editions, Chatelaine, The Capilano Review, and Pulp Literature. She was Poet Laureate for the City of Surrey (2015-2018), and cofounded Lunch Poems at SFU. She teaches Creative Writing at Douglas College. Visit her website at www.thecanadaproject.wordpress.com. This new book is published by Nightwood Editions. We spoke last Sunday morning, with Renée joining me from here in Vancouver. Please welcome back to the Planta: On the Line program, Renée Saklikar; Ms. Saklikar, good morning.
