Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:
I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, British Columbia, at TheCommentary.ca.
Joining me now is the poet Stephan Torre. He has just published a collection of poetry, Red Obsidian: New and Selected Poems. It is a collection of poetry that takes us into the wilds of the Canadian and American wests, providing a look at the landscape, as well as the animals, human and otherwise. I got a sense of how much work there is outside, chores and the sort. He evokes that in his words. Some of Stephan’s poetry looks at environmental degradation, as well as romantic relationships. Stephan Torre joined me from Port Townshend, Washington nearly three weeks ago. He’s lived throughout the northern California coast, as well as here in British Columbia, like Salt Spring Island, where he usually lives. He’s lived off-grid in rural locations, and his working life has included college teaching, counseling, family services, farming, and construction. This new book is published by University of Regina Press. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, Stephan Torre; Mr. Torre, good morning.
