The singer and actor Nicolas King discusses his new album Act One: Celebrating 25 Years of Recordings (Club44 Records, 2021), with Joseph Planta.

Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, British Columbia, at TheCommentary.ca.

Nicolas King joins me now. The acclaimed singer and actor has just released a new album, Act One: Celebrating 25 Years of Recordings. Mr. King began performing at the age of four, and in a career that has included three Broadway productions, Beauty and the Beast, A Thousand Clowns with Tom Selleck (who appears on the album), and Carol Burnett’s Hollywood Arms. He has done commercials likely remembered for the award-winning Oscar Mayer Lunchables ads. And he’s appeared on various talk shows like The Tonight Show, Today Show, as well as the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon. On this new album, one hears highlights from Nicolas’s career, as well as the music of Alan and Marilyn Bergman, Irving Berlin, Bob Crewe and Bob Gaudio, Harold Arlen, Johnny Mercer, Jimmy Van Heusen, Michel Legrand, Dave Grusen, as well as Tracy Stark, Bob Levy and Alex Rybeck. There are some great numbers on the album, “Mr. Paganini,” “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” “God Bless the Child,” the Carol Burnett theme “I’m So Glad We Had This Time Together,” as well as “What A Wonderful World” a duet featuring Norm Lewis, and “But Beautiful” featuring Jane Monheit. The album is from Club44 Records. Visit www.TheNicolasKing.com for more information. He joined me from New York City two weeks ago. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, Nicolas King; Mr. King, good morning.
