Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, British Columbia, at TheCommentary.ca.

Justin Ling joins me now. The investigative journalist has recently published Missing From the Village: The Story of Serial Killer Bruce McArthur, the Search for Justice, and the System That Failed Toronto’s Queer Community. It’s a thorough and critical look at the murders committed by Bruce McArthur, the victims themselves, as well as the institutional failures that obviously need addressing, which some might thing allowed McArthur to elude justice as long as he had. There are also issues regarding how the media does its job that Mr. Ling looks at, as well as other government policy failures that might have isolated some of the victims. I’ll ask Justin about covering this story, doing the CBC podcast he did on all this, as well as this new book. Justin Ling’s work has appeared in the Globe and Mail, the National Post, the Guardian, and Foreign Policy, among other outlets. In 2019, he hosted the award-winning The Village, which was the third season of CBC’s Uncover, which examined cold cases from the 1970s that were reopened as a result of the McArthur investigation. @Justin_Ling is the Twitter handle. This new book is published by McClelland & Stewart. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, Justin Ling; Mr. Ling, good morning.
