The artistic director of Rumble Theatre Jiv Parasram discusses the impact of COVID-19 and their adjusted spring season, their productions Good Things to Do, and B by Guillermo Calderon, with Joseph Planta.

Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, British Columbia, at TheCommentary.ca.

Our inability to gather in public, in theatres and arts space especially, has been a unique loss during the coronavirus pandemic. It has forced many theatrical companies around the world to shutter or adapt to the COVID reality. Vancouver’s Rumble Theatre has adjusted to a digital spring season. Joining me again is Jiv Parasram. He is the artistic director of Rumble Theatre, and I’ll ask him about Good Things to Do, which is running again this weekend, tonight through to May 2nd. Tickets for the online presentation can be had through Eventbrite, and they’re $5. The times are 5pm, 6.30pm, and 9pm, and the performances are approximately 45 minutes. I’ll get Jiv to tell us about this production that is co-created and designed by Christine Quintana, Molly MacKinnon, Sam MacKinnon, and Mishelle Cuttler. Another production later in May is B by Guillermo Calderon. I’ll ask Jiv about that, as well as the Living Room Salon Series that is now on Zoom, and The Transmissions, a new podcast. Visit www.rumble.org for more information. I’ll also get Jiv to reflect on the arts and this unique and unprecedented time. I couldn’t help but think as I was speaking to him last week, just how much the arts are needed in our lives. Please welcome back to the Planta: On the Line program, Jiv Parasram; Mr. Parasram, good morning.
