Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:
I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, British Columbia, at TheCommentary.ca.
Beginning tonight, and opening tomorrow night, Friday, 07 February 2020 at the Gateway Theatre in Richmond is the Western Canadian premiere of Straight White Men. It is a play by the ground-breaking and dynamic playwright Young Jean Lee. It is a hilarious play that explores privilege, the ubiquitous male, white, straight version. Joining me now is Peter Anderson, he’s one of the production’s stars. He joins me to talk about his character, who’s got three sons, who come together at Christmas. They comport themselves as guys would be expected. They confront what is expected of them as sons and as white males. The production features Mr. Anderson, Kim Villagante, Raven John, Daniel Martin, Carlo Marks, and Sebastien Archibald. Kim and Raven are the play’s hosts, or as the playwright directed: “Persons in Charge.” Peter Anderson’s recent credits include Titus Bouffonius and Butcher, The Coyotes, The Overcoat, and The Number 14. His film and television credits include The Stand, Falling for Vermont, The Man in the High Castle, and Supernatural. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan, and the Dell’Arte School of Physical Theatre. He is the recipient of eight Jessie Awards. Straight White Men is directed by Chelsea Haberlin of ITSAZOO, and Fay Nass of The Frank Theatre. The show runs until 15 February 2020. Visit www.gatewaytheatre.com for tickets and information. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, Peter Anderson; Mr. Anderson, good morning.
