The director and producer Chris Lam discusses the latest Fighting Chance Production, Girlfriend, the music of Matthew Sweet, and more, with Joseph Planta.

Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, British Columbia, at TheCommentary.ca.

Chris Lam joins me again. He is directing and producing the latest Fighting Chance production of the musical Girlfriend. It is based on the pop/rock music of Matthew Sweet, set in 1990s Nebraska. Two guys, one a social outcast, the other a popular jock in high school, explore a relationship, questioning themselves and whatever expectations high school and or a small town foist on young people. I’ll get Chris to tell us about the show, the music and the themes therein. Visit www.fightingchanceproductions.ca for tickets and more information. The show runs at The Nest on Granville Island, 10-21 December 2019. Please welcome back to the Planta: On the Line program, Chris Lam; Mr. Lam, good morning.
