The executive director of the BC Yukon Book Prizes Sean Cranbury discusses the awards, new awards, the literary community in this town, in British Columbia and the Yukon, and more, with Joseph Planta.

Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, British Columbia, at TheCommentary.ca.

Sean Cranbury joins me again. He is the executive director of the BC and Yukon Book Prizes, a post he took up in February of this year. He joins me now to catch up. And with all the activity in his life, I’m happy he’s made the time. He hasn’t been on in seven years. He’s been busy. He founded and continues to produce the Real Vancouver Writers Series, as well as Books on the Radio, the podcast. Sean’s also a freelance writer, website designer, and consultant. He even managed the Storm Crow Alehouse. Visit www.seancranbury.com for more information. The website for the BC Yukon Book Prizes is at www.bcbookprizes.ca. Since 1985, they have been celebrating the achievements of writers and publishers in this part of the world. I had the honour this past year of sitting on the judging panel for the Hubert Evans Non-Fiction Prize. It was a marvelous way to read this region and view it through the books it published in 2018. Perhaps we’ll discuss the process by which books are shortlisted and the winner chosen, as I’ve gotten questions about it. What I want to talk to Sean about though, are the recent changes, including a new award and a returning award. @seancranbury is the Twitter handle. Please welcome back to the Planta: On the Line program, Sean Cranbury; Mr. Cranbury, good morning.
