This is Vancolour’s Mo Amir discusses his popular podcast, Vancouver, the Don Cherry controversy, race and politics, with Joseph Planta.

Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, British Columbia, at TheCommentary.ca.

Mo Amir joins me now. The host and producer of This is Vancolour has gotten a lot of attention, taking Vancouver by storm with his podcast and various appearances about town. It started in the summer of 2018, and really ramped up into the fall of that year, as Mo had various candidates in the municipal election on his show. His conversational style, and interest in a variety of issues, as well as his eagerness to get to know his guests makes his show a popular listen, as well as a stop for activists, artists, public figures, politicians, and everybody in between. I’ll ask Mo Amir about why he started his show, about this part of the world we live in, and where he sees it headed. You take the opioid crisis and the challenges of living in such an expensive city, as well as the natural tensions that come with a pluralistic society, not just race but class. For some, it may not be a wholly enjoyable place to live in, or even a place one would want to live in. But Mo through his show and its guests allows us a chance to talk about what confronts us and what also makes this place as special, and colourful as it is. I’ll ask him about who he’s enjoyed talking to over the last year or so, and where he’d like to take the show into the future. Mo Amir is a graduate of Simon Fraser University. He works in the forestry sector, and is a regular contributor to the Lynda Steele’s show on CKNW. @vancolour is the Twitter handle and the website for the show is at www.thisisvancolour.com. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, Mo Amir; Mr. Amir, good morning.
