The director and associate professor at the University of Regina Kathryn Bracht discusses the upcoming Western Gold Theatre production of Caryl Churchill Escaped Alone (01-17 November 2019 at the PAL Studio Theatre) that she is directing, with Joseph Planta.

Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, British Columbia, at TheCommentary.ca.

The latest production from the good folks at Western Gold Theatre is Escaped Alone, the play by Caryl Churchill. It is to be directed by Kathryn Bracht, who joins me now to talk about the play, the production, and the company. The play is a fresh Churchill script, written by her in her late seventies, meant to be played by four women in their senior years. These are four ordinary women dealing with disruptions and shifts to their comfortable routine. It asks big questions like ‘What are we doing to our land?’ ‘What have we left our children?’ ‘How do we move forward?’ I’ll ask Kathryn to reflect on some of these themes and more. There are 18 performances of Escaped Alone at the PAL Studio Theatre 01-17 November 2019. Visit www.alone.BPT.me for tickets. The play stars Eileen Barrett, Tanja Dixon-Warren, Jenn Griffin, and Anna Hagan. Ms. Hagan is the former artistic director of Western Gold, and Ms. Dixon-Warren is its new one; this production being the first with her at the helm of this company founded by Joy Coghill. Kathryn Bracht is associate professor in the Theatre Department at the University of Regina. She is a graduate of the University of British Columbia and the University of Alberta. She has acted in and directed in productions across the country, and has appeared in film and television, including Corner Gas, Little Mosque on the Prairie, and many other credits. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, Kathryn Bracht; Professor Bracht, good morning.
