The actor and performer Eddie Perfect, the composer of Beetlejuice: The Musical (Ghostlight Records, 2019), discusses the Original Broadway Cast album, writing musicals, living in New York, and more, with Joseph Planta.

Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, British Columbia, at TheCommentary.ca.

Earlier this year, Eddie Perfect had two musicals running simultaneously on Broadway: King Kong, and Beetlejuice. The Australian native has been living in New York City where he joins me from today, fulfilling a dream to write music and lyrics for the musical theatre. He’s already well known as an actor, playing the role of Mick Holland in the Australian comedy-drama program Offspring for five seasons. (You can see the show on Netflix.) He performed his own music on the show, as well as in various cabaret and stage shows in Australia before making the move to the United States in 2015. I’ll ask Eddie about making it in New York, and what it’s like having two shows on Broadway, and how he works; as well we discuss the new Original Broadway Cast Recording of Beetlejuice, now out from Ghostlight Records and Warner Records. The album is available for streaming now on platforms like Spotify, and the physical CD will be released this Friday, 11 October 2019. Beetlejuice: The Musical continues its run at the Winter Garden Theatre, where it opened on Broadway in April of this year. King Kong, which opened in October of 2018, closed in August 2019 and will have a life in touring productions, including Japan in 2021. @Eddieperfect is the Twitter handle, and the website for more is at www.ghostlightrecords.com. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, Eddie Perfect; Mr. Perfect, good morning.
