Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, British Columbia, at TheCommentary.ca.

It is said that John Barbour changed the face of American television, and invariably television around the world. He is the winner of five Emmy Awards, the first for the program Real People, which he created, produced and co-hosted over forty years ago now. Mr. Barbour joins me now to talk about his career in show business, which he chronicles in his new memoir. It’s a fascinating book, full of stories of people he encountered. Mr. Barbour was born in Canada, and recounts his childhood in this book. He talks about the less than ideal childhood affected by illness and poverty. I’ll ask John about this book and more, and perhaps get him to share some stories about the famous, talented people he has met and worked with, befriended, and fallen out with over a remarkable life. The full title of the book, published by Trine Day, is: Your Mother’s Not a Virgin! The Bumpy Life and Times of the Canadian Dropout Who Changed the Face of Television. More information can be had at his website: www.johnbarboursworld.com. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, John Barbour; Mr. Barbour, good morning.
