Text of the introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, British Columbia, at TheCommentary.ca.

Mark Leiren-Young joins me again. He has just published a new book, Orcas Everywhere: The Mystery and History of Killer Whales. Though written for a younger audience, the book is a marvelous overview of orcas and their place in this history, here especially, as well a chronicle of the challenges then and into the future for these creatures. He also discusses the relationship we as humans have with killer whales, for better or for worse. He also writes in the book about his own experience with orcas, who he fell in love with at an early age. Mark Leiren-Yong is the distinguished writer, documentary filmmaker, comic, podcaster and orca activist. His previous book, which he was last on with was The Killer Whale Who Changed the World. There’s also a documentary called The Hundred-Year Whale. The radio documentary Moby Doll, about the first killer whale in captivity, was critically acclaimed. His previous books include Never Shoot a Stampede Queen, and Free Magic Secrets, among others. He hosts the podcast Skaana. This new book is from Orca Book Publishers, part of their new Orca Wild series. Please welcome back to the Planta: On the Line program, Mark Leiren-Young; Mr. Leiren, good morning.
