The Juno Award winning musician Laila Biali discusses jazz, performing and writing music, as well as hosting the CBC Radio One program Saturday Night Jazz, as well she previews her upcoming performances (June 22nd) at the TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival, with Joseph Planta.

Laila Biali joins me now. She is such a talent in the world of performing known for her award-winning music that she sings, plays and writes. She will be appearing Saturday, 22 June 2019 at Pyatt Hall as part of the 34th Annual TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival. There’ll be two shows, one at 7.30pm and another at 09.30pm. She moves effortlessly among the genres of music she performs: jazz, pop, classical, world, soul. Her recent album is self-titled, Laila Biali, and was the 2019 recipient of the Juno Award for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year. We’ll discuss her co-nominees this past spring, as well as the upcoming tour. We’ll talk about studying jazz, as well about the popular Saturday Night Jazz that she hosts on CBC Radio One.
