Corus Vancouver’s Senior Program Director Larry Gifford talks about how he copes with Parkinson’s, his podcast When Life Gives You Parkinson’s, how he raises awareness, as well as his career in and love for radio, CKNW’s 75th anniversary and more, with Joseph Planta.

Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, British Columbia, at TheCommentary.ca.

Larry Gifford joins me now. The Senior Program Director and Manager of Talk and Talent for Corus Vancouver has created the podcast When Life Gives You Parkinson’s, an informative and fascinating look at his own diagnosis, how he copes, how those around him cope, and just what medical science has more to say about the disease. We learn through the show, just how many people are diagnosed with Parkinson’s, as well as how little support there is for them and their families. The lack of resources for research is also something that Mr. Gifford talks about, and I’ll ask him about his own prognosis, why he chose to talk about it publicly, and why he decided to use podcasting as the way to raise awareness. You can listen to and download the podcast on Apple Podcasts and all the other places you get your podcasts, as well at www.curiouscast.ca. A lot of us in these parts first knew about Larry from his Radio Stuff podcast. This was even before he started working at radio station CKNW here in Vancouver. His career in radio include stints in news in Seattle, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Dayton, and the city of his birth Columbus. He’s been with Corus since May 2016, consulting with them for a time before that. It’ll be good to talk to him about radio, whether it’s relevant today, and the milestone that CKNW will be marking later this summer, its 75th anniversary. @Giffordtweet is the Twitter handle. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, Larry Gifford; Mr. Gifford, good morning.
