The managing and artistic director of the TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival Rainbow Robert discusses the 34th annual festival, jazz, and more, with Joseph Planta.

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, British Columbia, at TheCommentary.ca.

Being a bit of a jazz fan, I wondered aloud on Twitter recently on news that Wu-Tang Clan would be a headlining act at the upcoming 34th Annual TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival, whether they and/or The Roots, another headlining act, were in fact jazz. So, who better to discuss this all with than the festival’s Managing and Artistic Director, Rainbow Robert. Some of the other acts include Herbie Hancock, Five Alarm Funk and Too Many Zooz, A Tribe Called Red’s DJ Shub, Alexander Hawkins, Mats Gustafsson, as well as over 150 free concerts at the Vancouver Art Gallery, Robson Square, Granville Island, as well as David Lam Park, and two venues on the North Shore. There’s such variety in the lineup that it’ll be good to talk to Ms. Robert about what to expect. Some 400,000 attendees are at concerts across the city, in what marks for a lot of people the kick off to summer. We taped this interview in early May, so do check out the website for what’s left in terms of tickets: www.costaljazz.ca. And please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, Rainbow Robert; Ms. Robert, good morning.
