The theatre artist Julie Tamiko Manning talks to Joseph Planta about the The Tashme Project: The Living Archives, that she performs with Matt Miwa, that runs at the Firehall Arts Centre, 02-13 April 2019.

Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, British Columbia, at TheCommentary.ca.

Beginning next Tuesday, 02 April 2019 at the Firehall Arts Centre is the Tashme Project: The Living Archives. The award-winning play portrays the history and experience of the Nisei, second generation Japanese Canadians through the internment during the Second World War, as well as their resettlement after the war. These children of the internment were interviewed by the creators and performers of this show Julie Tamiko Manning, who joins me now, and Matt Miwa. I’ll ask Julie about the connection she as a third generation Japanese Canadian had with these people she interviewed, whose voices she and Matt portray, as well as the necessity of preserving this history. Julie Tamiko Manning is an award-winning theatre artist based in Montreal. She has worked across Canada for the last twenty years. Visit www.thetashmeproject.com, and www.firehallartscentre.ca for tickets and information. The show begins 02 April 2019 and runs until 13 April 2019. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, Julie Tamiko Manning; Ms. Manning, good morning.
