The filmmaker Cat Mills discusses her new documentary Biker Bob’s Posthumous Adventure, working with CBC Short Docs, and more, with Joseph Planta.

Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, British Columbia, at TheCommentary.ca.

Cat Mills joins me again. The filmmaker and adventure writer has a new film out. They’re showcasing some tremendous work over at CBC Short Docs, and Ms. Mills new short Biker Bob’s Posthumous Adventure is a terrific film. The film begins with the accounts of a few young people who have found a bottle washed up on the shore. They found the bottle in different places, and they each wondered what it was all about. It contained what appeared to be ashes, and a note that said: “Biker Bob. If you find me, turn me loose.” Hugh Robert “Biker Bob” Nisbet died on 10 August 2013 due to injuries suffered after getting struck by a car while he was riding his motorcycle in Saanich. Bob didn’t want to be buried, so his partner Maudine put the ashes with a message in a bottle. It found its way to at least three different people, and the film fills in Biker Bob’s life, Maudine’s loss, and these strangers that have now become friends. It’s a beautiful, heartwarming story. I’ll get Cat to tell us about the film, which you can see now at www.cbc.ca/docs, or elsewhere online like YouTube. The film is produced by Joella Cabalu, who also produced FIXED!, the doc that Cat Mills was last on the program with back in 2017. Please welcome back to the Planta: On the Line program, Cat Mills; Ms. Mills, good morning.
