Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:
I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, British Columbia, at TheCommentary.ca.
Ian Williams is considered one of the country’s most original talents on the literary landscape. He has just published a new novel, his debut, Reproduction. It was published earlier this month, and I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago while he was in Toronto doing press for the book. We talk about the unique, funny characters in his book, as well as the stretch of time we follow them through the book. It contends with family, blood or otherwise, as well as the need for some to have children. Me and Mr. Williams talked about a lot, and I found it a lot of fun. Ian Williams is the author of Personals, Not Anyone’s Anything, and You Know Who You Are. They are prize-winning books. He is an assistant professor of poetry in the Creative Writing department at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Visit www.ianwilliams.ca for more, as well as Ian’s Twitter: @ianwillwrite. This new book is published by Random House. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, Ian Williams; Professor Williams, good morning.
