The Artistic Producer of the Firehall Arts Centre Donna Spencer discusses her adaptation of Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People, that runs 10 November and runs to 01 December 2018, The Enemy, with Joseph Planta.

Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.

Donna Spencer joins me again. The Firehall Arts Centre’s Artistic Producer is on to talk about their new production, The Enemy, an adaptation of Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People, which Ms. Spencer adapts and directs. Set in a contemporary small town in British Columbia, Dr. Stockman becomes a pariah when she discovers the pollution in a local spa and water park threatens the town’s tourism industry and economic wellbeing. Soon, her truth is branded fake through social media and the news. It’s a timely work, and I’ll get Ms. Spencer to tell us about the various themes explored in her adaptation and in Ibsen. Whether it’s political extremism, corruption, environmental activism, and accountability, there’s just so much to unpack. The show stars Jenn Griffin as Stockman, and features Paul Herbert, Peter Anderson, Daniel Arnold, Sharon Crandall, Braiden Houle, Michael Scholar Jr., Donna Soares, and Agnes Tong. The show runs at the Firehall Arts Centre, 280 East Cordova, Vancouver, from 10 November to 01 December 2018. Visit www.firehallartscentre.ca for tickets and information. Please welcome back to the Planta: On the Line program, Donna Spencer; Ms. Spencer, good morning.
