The director and performer Aryo Khakpour, founder of the Biting School, discusses the new production of Cain and Abel, currently playing at the Firehall Arts Centre until Saturday, 06 October 2018, its themes and performing, with Joseph Planta.

Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.

Opening Wednesday night at the Firehall Arts Centre, 03 October 2018 and running until Saturday, 06 October 2018 is Cain and Abel presented by The Biting School. One of the directors and performers of the show joins me now. I’ll ask Aryo Khakpour about this production, the themes from the biblical story that perhaps inspire this production, such as violence and the patriarchy. The show is performed in two parts by Aryo and his brother Arash. The first half studies depictions of killing ones brother in different contexts, and is highly physical and aggressive in rhythm. The second half of the performance presents a reaction to the absence of women from the biblical story. The Biting School is the company that both Arash and Aryo founded, bringing their backgrounds of dance and theatre to bear in performances at Dancing on the Edge Festival, Dance Days Victoria, rEvolver Festival, and Dance in Vancouver, among others. Visit www.bitingschool.com. And visit www.firehallartscentre.ca for tickets and information. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, Aryo Khakpour; Mr. Khakpour, good morning.
