Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:
I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.
Linda Rogers joins me now. She has just published a new collection of short stories, Crow Jazz. The stories are inspired by crows, the ones Ms. Rogers encounters; crows that reflect a lot about humans and culture itself. I talk to Linda about the situations her characters find themselves in, their personality traits, and whether any of the stories have been inspired by experiences in her life. Linda Rogers is a novelist, essayist, editor and songwriter. She is past Victoria Poet Laureate, Canadian People’s Poet, and President of the League of Canadian Poets, and the BC Federation of Writers. She has published twenty-nine books, and appeared in a number of anthologies. She has been the recipient of the Leacock Prize, the National Poetry Prize, the Dorothy Livesay Prize, the Gwendolyn MacEwen Prize, and the Milton Acorn Award in Canada, and a number of others. The book, her first collection of short fiction, is published by Mother Tongue. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, in Victoria, Linda Rogers; Ms. Rogers, good morning.
