Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.

The acclaimed writer Kim Thúy joins me now. She recently published her new novel Vi. It follows the life of the youngest of four children, her family’s background in Vietnam, before and during the Vietnam War, and through to their arrival in Canada, where they have to make a new life for themselves. Kim Thúy was born in Saigon, and left with the boat people at the age of ten. She and her family settled in Quebec. She is a graduate of translation and law, and has devoted herself to writing after working as a seamstress, interpreter, lawyer, restaurant owner, and commentator on radio and television. The book is translated by the award-winning Sheila Fischman. It is published by Random House. I talked to Ms. Thúy last week, while she was in Victoria, British Columbia for an appearance. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, Kim Thúy; Ms. Thúy, good morning.
