Fabulist Theatre’s production of the musical Once on this Island begins this Friday, 06 April 2018 (running to 14 April 2018); the show’s director Damon Jang, and its choreographer Marion Landers talk to Joseph Planta about the music, dance, diverse cast, and more.

Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.

The one-act musical Once on this Island has a limited engagement on Granville Island, starting this Friday, 06 April 2018, running until the following Saturday, 14 April 2018. With a book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, and music by Stephen Flaherty. It is set on an island in the Caribbean, and has elements of Romeo and Juliet and Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid. I’ll get this production’s director Damon Jang to tell us more about the show. We’re also joined by Marion Landers, who is this show’s choreographer. I’ll ask them about the production’s casting, which draws on the diversity in this community. We’ll also talk about the company, Fabulist Theatre, and more. The show is on at the Redgate Revue Stage, 1601 Johnston Street on Granville Island. The Twitter handle is @FabulistTheatre. Tickets are available at https://ootivan.brownpapertickets.com. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program Marion Landers and Damon Jang; Ms. Landers, good morning. And Mr. Jang, good morning.
