Mina Shum
The acclaimed filmmaker Mina Shum discusses her new release Meditation Park, which she wrote, directed and produced, about the journey a Chinese Canadian wife in her sixties undertakes when she soon discovers her husband’s infidelity, with Joseph Planta. The film opens in Vancouver and Toronto Friday, 09 March 2018.

The film Meditation Park opens shortly, and has already gotten a Canadian Screen Award nomination, for one of its actors Tzi Ma. He plays Bing, whose wife Maria, played by Cheng Pei Pei, we meet hanging the laundry and keeping house for him. They’re in their 60s, and soon after she finds a thong in her husband’s pants pocket, she is forced to confront how powerless she is. It’s soon sets her on an unexpected journey of liberation. Joining me now is Mina Shum, the acclaimed director of the film, to talk about film she’s written, directed and produced. The film also stars Sandra Oh, Don McKellar, and Zak Santiago, with Jemmy Chen, Lillian Lim, Alannah Ong, Sharmaine Yeoh, and Liane Balaban. The film screened at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival to much acclaim, and it opened the Vancouver International Film Festival. Mina Shum is the acclaimed director of feature films, shorts and documentaries. Her previous films include Double Happiness, Drive, She Said, Long Life, Happiness & Prosperity, and Ninth Floor. @MinaShum is the Twitter handle.
