The award-winning director and writer Annie Dorsen discusses Spokaoke, the interactive piece that’s at the PuSh Festival Friday, 02 February 2018, where instead of popular songs, the audience can choose from famous speeches and monologues to perform for the audience at the Fox Cabaret, with Joseph Planta.

One of the more fascinating offerings at the 14th PuSh Festival’s Club PuSh this year is Spokaoke, the interactive piece is on at The Fox Cabaret, 02 February 2018 at 9.00pm. Instead of a night of karaoke, people can choose from almost a hundred famous speeches, notable pieces of rhetoric, memorable monologues. There’s Reagan telling Gorbachev to ‘tear down this wall,’ to some of Socrates’s speeches, to a scene from Clueless. Annie Dorsen conceived of this internationally acclaimed show that has toured Europe and throughout the United States. She works in various fields including theatre, film, dance and algorithmic theatre. Ms. Dorsen directed and co-created the 2008 Broadway production of Passing Strange, which garnered much acclaim and numerous awards. Among her recent accolades include the 2014 Herb Alpert Award for the Arts in Theater, and a 2016 Foundation for Contemporary Arts Award.
