When Mona Fertig was on a few weeks back, she made mention of the books that Mother Tongue Publishing is releasing, and one of the notable titles is the tenth and final book in the Unheralded Artists of BC series. The collection has featured full-length biographies and handsome showcases of their art. Kerry Mason is the author of The Life and Art of Arthur Pitts. She joins me now talk to Arthur Pitts who joins the list of fascinating artists and artisans that this remarkable series have been remembered and salvaged. Arthur Pitts was born in London, England in 1889, and his interest in adventure took him to South Africa, then Canada. His fascination in history and indigenous cultures, inspired his art. I’ll get Ms. Mason to tell us about how he ended up in Canada, his other travels, and media in which he worked. Kerry Mason is an art historian, author, curator, and art consultant who lectures at the University of Victoria, as well as the University of Colorado, the Victoria College of Art, and Vancouver Island School of Art, among other institutions.
