The activist and award-winning broadcaster Garth Mullins joins Joseph Planta to talk about current affairs in Vancouver, affordability, the opioid crisis, as well as capitalism, fascism, and media.

Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.

Garth Mullins joins me again. The activist and award-winning broadcaster is back to talk about matters of politics. We just had a by-election in Vancouver, and where we are in the saga of seeking affordability in this city. We’ll also talk about the opioid crisis. We’ll doubtless talk about the world around us, politics in the United States and what that means for the uncertainty we all feel. We’ll talk about broadcasting and the media too. Mr. Mullins was a commentator in the pages of the 24 Hours paper, until he was recently let go. Distant Future Warnings was the most recent radio documentary Garth and Lisa Hale produced for the CBC. It was a compelling piece on radioactive waste and the effects of toxic mining and how future generations will contend with its dangers. The website for more is at www.garthmullins.com. Garth has written for numerous publications, and he’s won many awards, including a Webster Award in 2014 for the CBC Radio Ideas program he produced with Lisa Hale and Yvonne Gall. Please welcome back to the Planta: On the Line program, Garth Mullins; Mr. Mullins, good morning.
