I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.

Jen Waite joins me now. She’s written a remarkable book, A Beautiful, Terrible Thing. A new mother discovers her husband, the father of her daughter, is the textbook definition of a psychopath. It’s a first-person account of attraction turning into love, turning into a relationship, turning into parenthood, turning into a marriage, and subsequently heartbreak. She has triumphed though, and joins me now to talk about the book that’s come out of the ruins. She is now pursuing a career in therapy so that she can help many others. Her experiences are unfortunately all-too common, as Jen will attest. I’ll get her to tell us about the signs to spot a psychopath, and just how her experience might be illustrative to others.
