Judi Tyabji joins me again. The author and former politician has a new book out, Christy Clark: Behind the Smile. It’s a biography of the Premier of British Columbia, and a year before the next election it’s as Vaughn Palmer said, a starting point in getting to understand the Premier and what makes her tick. The book’s pretty good in giving the overview of Clark’s life to recent times, especially how she was drawn into politics, and how she won the 2013 election, that a lot of people expected her and the BC Liberal Party to lose. I’ll ask Ms. Tyabji who joins me now to talk about the Christy Clark she’s known for over two decades now, the record of her government, and as Vaughn Palmer suggests in his column, what it takes to beat her, which possibly is found in this book. I’ll also get Judi to address the controversy surrounding the book, whether the relationships political or otherwise might have had a part in how this book came about, or at the very least its portrayal of Premier Clark. Judi Tyabji was the MLA for Okanagan East from 1991 to 1996, was a member of Powell River City Council (1999-2001), as well as a television and radio personality hosting programs. She also wrote two previous bestsellers, Political Affairs, and Daggers Unsheathed: The Political Assassination of Glen Clark, which like this book are welcome additions to the all too few books on British Columbia politics.
