Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:
I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.
Jack Charles was once described on Australian television as one of the most respected and enduring actors in the country. He brings his show Jack Charles V. The Crown to Vancouver’s PuSh Festival 21-23 January 2016. He’ll take it to Calgary later in the month, and he’s in Ottawa now, just about to being a run of show’s at the National Arts Centre there. He joins me now, and I’ll get him to tell us about this show where he’ll tell audiences about his life and career. He’s got some great stories, and they’re in this unique piece that explores the themes through Jack’s life: abuse, the aboriginal experience in Australia, a career in theatre and the screen, to drug use, crime, and faith. The show has toured throughout Australia and has gone onto England and Ireland. Visit www.pushfestival.ca for tickets for the performances. The show plays at the Fei and Milton Wong Experimental Theatre at SFU’s Goldcorp Centre for the Arts. On 20 January 2016, the documentary on Jack’s life Bastardy will screened. That’ll be a free showing. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program in Ottawa, Jack Charles; Mr. Charles, good morning.
