Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:
I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.
Alana Chernila joins me now. The popular teacher and writer has a new book out: The Homemade Kitchen: Recipes for Cooking with Pleasure. It’s a great guide to how to think about the kitchen, food, and cooking. Alana gets us to think locally, as well as practically when it comes to what we make. The recipes in the book are easy to follow, and look attractive, and I suspect tasty too. There are a number of recipes that harness the bounty that we might have around this time of year, whether it’s what to do with too many tomatoes, or vegetables that need pickling. Have you ever thought of making lemon curd? There are instructions on how to do that too. What you get out of this book are new ideas on how to view cooking. It doesn’t have to induce stress, and one can do all the things to live consciously too. Alana Chernila blogs at www.EatingFromTheGroundUp.com. And she lives in Massachusetts. The book is published by Clarkson Potter, which is an imprint of Crown. She joined me last week while in town for appearances to promote the book. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, Alana Chernila; Ms. Chernila, good morning.
