The artist David Wilson discusses his upcoming exhbition, Light and Colour at the Kimoto Gallery (18 September-10 October 2015), a career in art, Vancouver, and more, with Joseph Planta.

Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.

A few years ago, I was waiting somewhere and noticed a David Wilson painting hanging. It was of a familiar street in Vancouver, and it was vibrant, moving, and a marvelous capturing of life in this city. I noticed a detail about the street that had me staring for a good few minutes, not noticing whatever it was I was waiting for. Art does that, and looking at some of the upcoming paintings to be shown at the Kimoto Gallery here in Vancouver beginning this Friday night, through to 10 October 2015, you’ll do that with the latest from Mr. Wilson. His work will make you notice this city, the cars that we see parked on the street, and more importantly the people, holding their umbrellas, waiting, trying to get through their day. David Wilson joins me now. He’s an acclaimed artist, who’s lived in Vancouver for 23 years. I’ll get him to tell us about Light and Colour, the new exhibit, and whatever it was going on in his own life and around him that might have inspired these latest pieces. www.davidwilson.ca is the website for more. From there you can go to his Instagram, where you can see some of his work, and a lot of what he sees, which invariably inspires the art he commits to canvass. It’s evocative, dynamic work. Also visit www.kimotogallery.com. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, David Wilson; Mr. Wilson, good morning.
