The actress Emmelia Gordon returns to the Firehall Arts Centre’s production of last year’s hit, Proud by Michael Healey (a role that was nominated for a Jessie Award), from 07-25 April 2015. She discusses her part, politics and more, with Joseph Planta.

Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.

Emmelia Gordon joins me now. The actress who was nominated for a Jessie Award for her performance in Michael Healey’s Proud, returns to the Firehall Arts Centre as a second term runs 07-25 April 2015. Ms. Gordon plays Jisbella, a newly elected Conservative MP following the 2011 federal election, when the Conservatives win the largest majority in Canadian history. Saddled with a large caucus, the Prime Minister, never called Stephen Harper on stage, has to keep his members occupied, and this includes Jisbella. What ensues is satire at its sharpest, and politics at its most confounding. I’ll get Ms. Gordon to tell us about her role, and the reaction to the play last year, and the remounting this year. We’ll also talk about the timeliness of the play, what with an election this fall. Emmelia Gordon is a noted actress in Vancouver. Visit www.emmeliagordon.com for more information on her work and career. Also, visit www.firehallartscentre.ca for tickets and information. The show also stars Andrew Wheeler and Kyle Jespersen. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, Emmelia Gordon; Ms. Gordon, good morning.
