The broadcaster Joe Leary reflects on his career in the media in Vancouver and elsewhere, as well as the media scene today, with Joseph Planta.

Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.

We continue meeting and chatting with notable media personalities in this part of the world. Joe Leary joins me now. Whether it’s his years on television, or for various publications in British Columbia and beyond, or on the radio, Mr. Leary remains an ever-present personality in the community. He hosts Just Here for the Beer monthly on TSN Radio 1410 AM here in Vancouver, every last Saturday at noon. You can read him in the 24 Hours newspaper. He’s also in show business, and perhaps he’ll tell us about his endeavours there. I first saw Joe doing the weekend weather on channel 13, over the years doing weather there whether it was UTV, CKVU, Global, or City TV. He’s worked in broadcasting at various stations in the city, hosting morning and afternoon drive programs. He also penned the must-read Air Traffic column that appeared in the Province for seven years a decade or so ago. I’ll get Joe to reflect on the state of broadcasting today, and we’ll look back at the influences, the colleagues past and present, and more. The Twitter handle is @reallyjoeleary. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, Joe Leary; Mr. Leary, good morning.
