Alix Hawley is the New Face of Fiction. The Penguin Random House showcase for a first-time novelist has tapped her book All True Not a Lie in It as the 2015 selection. She joins me now to talk about her book about Daniel Boone, told in his voice. Which, like the man himself is replete with tall tales, myth-making and adventure. The book gives us the life of Boone from his childhood, through to his attempt to settle Kentucky, and his capture by the Shawnee. I’ll be interested to know what Dr. Hawley found so compelling about Boone, these times that Boone lived in, and what we might find contemporary in this story several hundred years away from the present day. Alix Hawley studied English literature and creative writing at Oxford University, the University of East Anglia, and the University of British Columbia. Her first book, a short story collection, The Old Familiar, was published in 2008. She won the 2014 Canada Writers Bloodlines competition, and was a runner up for the CBC Literary Award for short stories in 2012 and 2014.
