In 2012, Marcello Di Cintio began a residency at the Palestine Writing Workshop. While there he led a course on creative nonfiction. Through this course, and living just outside of Ramallah, he gained insight into what life was like for Palestinians. A new eBook, Song of the Caged Bird: Words as Resistance in Palestine looks at his time there, the writing of his students, and the insight he gained from what they wrote about. He also looks at how books and literature reflect the reality and history of Palestinians. Marcello Di Cintio joins me now. I’ll ask the award winning writer and teacher about his travels to Palestine and what their bookshelves told him about their existence and more. This new eBook is a Hazlitt Original from Knopf.
