Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.

Padma Viswanathan joins me now. The acclaimed and bestselling author has a new book out, a novel: The Ever After of Ashwin Rao. The notices for the book have been quite good already. The book is set among families who have lost relatives and loved ones in the 1985 Air India bombing. The book takes place in 2004, just as two suspects are finally put on trial for the crime. Ashwin Rao is a Canadian trained psychologist in India, who comes back to do a study on grief, interviewing those who’ve lost loved ones. I’ll get Ms. Viswanathan to tell us about this book, its inspiration, as well as the ideas of identity, grief and remembrance which she examines in this book. Born in Nelson, British Columbia, raised in Edmonton, and now living in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Padma Viswanathan’s debut novel The Toss of a Lemon was shortlisted for numerous awards including the Commonwealth Writer’s Prize Best First Book Award, Amazon.ca’s First Novel Award, and the PEN USA Fiction Award. The website for more is at www.padmaviswanathan.com [2]. The book is published by Random House. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, in Vancouver today, Padma Viswanathan; Ms. Viswanathan, good morning.
