Tom Charity

The films of Woody Allen are featured in a new retrospective at the Vancity Theatre, Woody in Winter [1] (22 December 2013 to 02 January 2014). To discuss the films featured, and the career of Woody Allen, with Joseph Planta, is Tom Charity, a programmer with the Vancouver International Film Festival.

Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.

There’s a terrific film series beginning on 22 December 2013 to the first of the year, it’s called Woody Allen 4 Seasons: Woody in Winter at the Vancouver International Film Festival’s Vancity Theatre. It’s a year-long retrospective on the films of Woody Allen, films that have won him three Oscars for screenwriting, and one for directing. The Woody in Winter segment features the following films: Hannah and Her Sisters, The Purple Rose of Cairo, Radio Days, Crimes and Misdemeanors, Shadows and Fog, Everyone Says I Love You, Love & Death, and the fantastic documentary on Allen by Robert Weide. Joining me now is Tom Charity. He’s the film programmer at the Vancity Theatre, and a freelance film critic whose work has appeared on CNN.com and Lovefilm.com. He’s also a contributing editor to Cinema Scope magazine, and a contributor to Sight & Sound. He joins me to discuss the work of Woody Allen, the prolific filmmaker who’s averaged a film a year since 1969, this much anticipated film series, and more. Michael van den Bos will be introducing these films. The website for tickets and information is at www.viff.org [1]. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, Tom Charity; Mr. Charity, good morning.
