Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.

The 1985 bombing of Air India Flight 182 is honoured and reflected upon in a new collection from the poet Renée Sarojini Saklikar. She joins now today to talk about this newly published collection, Children of Air India: un/authorized exhibits and interjections. It’s from Nightwood Editions. Canada’s worst act of terrorism, that killed all 329 passengers, including 82 children is all the more affecting with Ms. Saklikar’s powerful words. The poems come from a unique place, and I’ll get her to tell us about her personal connection to the bombing, as well we’ll talk about how Canadians at large should remember this heartbreaking episode in our national story. The book launches on Wednesday, 13 November 2013 at 7.00pm at SFU Woodward’s World Art Centre. That’s at 149 West Hastings here in Vancouver. This is the first book of poetry from Renée Saklikar, who also writes thecanadaproject [2], a life-long poem chronicle of her life. Read it at www.thecanadaproject.wordpress.com [2]. Her work has appeared in numerous literary publications as well. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, Renée Saklikar; Ms. Saklikar, good morning.
