Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.

Christina Johnson-Dean joins me again. She recently published the sixth book in Mother Tongue Publishing’s The Unheralded Artists of BC series. This one is, The Life and Art of Edythe Hembroff-Schleicher. She is mainly remembered for her two books on Emily Carr, as well as one of Carr’s sketching partners. She was someone involved with the art scene in British Columbia and beyond, as well as a skilled artist herself. I’ll get Christina to tell us more about Hembroff-Schleicher, her art, her life and what it was like to write about her in this new book. As always, it’s a wonderfully illustrated book. Christina Johnson-Dean teaches in the Greater Victoria School District and has published three other books. Her last one was The Life and Art of Ina D.D. Uhthoff, which she was on with last December. And which was recently named a finalist for the City of Victoria Butler Book Prize. Visit www.mothertonguepublishing.com [2] for more information. There’s a launch for this book this Saturday, 05 October 2013 at the Railway Club here in Vancouver: 579 Dunsmuir Street. That’s from 5pm to 8pm. Please welcome back to the Planta: On the Line program, in Victoria this day, Christina Johnson-Dean; Ms. Johnson-Dean, good morning.
