Tom Chin

Tom Chin, a performer and teacher, talks to Joseph Planta about the upcoming Vancouver Asian Canadian Theatre’s 14th Annual Comedy Night: Etch-Your Sketchoff [1], local theatre, race, culture, and more.

Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver at TheCommentary.ca.

Tom Chin joins me again. It’s been eight years since he was last on the program. If I recall, he’s a teacher, French, I think, and he’s also an actor, director and next week will host the Vancouver Asian Canadian Theatre’s 14th Annual Comedy Night: Etch-Your Sketchoff. I’ll get Mr. Chin to tell us about what to expect Wednesday and Thursday night, 29-30 May 2013 at the Roundhouse Community Arts Centre. Tickets are $20.00 in advance online at their website www.vact.ca [1], or $23.00 at the door. 8pm is when it all starts. I’ve been to one of these before and it’s tremendously funny. I’ll ask Mr. Chin now about the use of comedy, in particular the skits that the teams perform that help all of us confront stereotypes and break down cultural boundaries. As well, we’ll talk about the fantastic work that the Vancouver Asian Canadian Theatre has done in the community. Please welcome back to the Planta: On the Line program, Tom Chin; Mr. Chin, good morning.
