Alex Waterhouse-Hayward

The photographer, blogger and teacher Alex Waterhouse-Hayward discusses an exhibition of his work, Photographs: People, Plants and Passion, running until 30 May 2013 at the Duthie Gallery [1] on Salt Spring Island, with Joseph Planta.

Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver at TheCommentary.ca.

The noted photographer and blogger, Alex Waterhouse-Hayward joins me again. He is as Vancouver magazine once described him as, the ‘undisputed dean’ of the Vancouver’s photographers. His work has appeared in all sorts of publications from the New York Times, Vanity Fair, the Georgia Straight, and the Globe and Mail. He’s photographed nearly everyone who’s come into town from Elmore Leonard to the Pope. He’s also photographed everyone who’s anyone in town, from business barons to those of a political persuasion. His blog is a popular one, showcasing many memories of its author, as well as photographs from his archive. This month at the Duthie Gallery on Salt Spring Island, a new exhibit featuring the work of Alex Waterhouse-Hayward will be on display. The show’s called Photographs: People, Plants and Passion, and its opening reception is this Saturday, 04 May 2013 at 5pm. It’ll run until 30 May 2013. I’ll ask Alex about the exhibit, what one might be able to see in the photographs selected, and more. Celia Duthie says it best, that Alex deserves ‘a show so people will understand the breadth of’ his work. The websites for more are at www.alexwaterhousehayward.com [2] and www.duthiegallery.com [1]. Please welcome back to the Planta: On the Line program, Alex Waterhouse-Hayward; Mr. Waterhouse-Hayward, good morning.
