Gabby Kalaw

Continuing the series of interviews with candidates in Vancouver Kensington, BC Liberal candidate Gabby Kalaw discusses the BC provincial election campaign, the issues and more, with Joseph Planta.

Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver at TheCommentary.ca.

The provincial election is Tuesday, 14 May 2013. This is the third election campaign where I’ve invited all the candidates in the riding of Vancouver Kensington to come on the program and chat about the issues and more. Clockwise, the riding’s northern borders are 16th to Fraser, and Kingsway to Nanaimo; its eastern border is Nanaimo Street to 49th Avenue; 49th Avenue south to Main Street, and up Main from 49th to 16th Avenue. This year, like in 2005 and 2009, I’ve extended invitations to all four candidates running, I’ve already talked to the NDP candidate, and hope to arrange times to speak to the BC Conservative and Green Party candidates.

Gabby Kalaw joins me now. He is the BC Liberal candidate in Vancouver Kensington. The morning after the leaders debate, we’ll look at the campaign so far, the issues and more. Mr. Kalaw was born in the Philippines, and came to Richmond at an early age. He attended Acadia University in Nova Scotia, and was the managing editor of the student newspaper, whose name I can’t pronounce. He worked with the organisation Journalists for Human Rights in West Africa. He’s a business development manager for a telecommunications software company, and is a board member of the Friends of Bloedel Conservatory and the Kitsilano Chamber of Commerce. He was an NPA candidate for Park Board in the last municipal election in 2011. Visit www.gabbykalaw.ca [1] for more information. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, in studio today, Gabby Kalaw; Mr. Kalaw, good morning.
