Jay MillAr joins me now. The Toronto-based poet, editor, publisher, teacher and virtual bookseller was in Vancouver this past weekend to launch his latest collection of poetry: Timely Irreverence. It’s a collection of poems that are stimulating, that look at creativity, and how we view poetry itself. It’s at times fun, sometimes it’s serious, and it’s always thoughtful. I’ll get Mr. MillAr to tell us about his work, what publishing a collection like this is like, and about poetry today, its relevance and its future. He has written numerous books including small blue, False Maps for Other Creatures, Mycological Studies, and The Ghosts of Jay MillAr. His previous collections include esp: accumulation sonnets, and Other Poems. He is the coordinating force behind BookThug [2], an independent publishing house that publishes the exploratory work of well-known and emerging writers in North America. He also teaches creative writing and poetics at George Brown College and the Toronto New School of Writing.
