Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver at TheCommentary.ca.

One of Canada’s most prominent and much lauded artists joins me now. Roy Henry Vickers will be hosting a one-day-only art show here in Vancouver next Saturday, 06 April 2013. Mr Vickers will present a collection of prints at the Waterfall Building here in town at 1540 West 2nd Avenue. From 10.30am to 4pm, prints from his forthcoming book, Raven Brings the Light will be on display, as well there’ll be storytelling too. This will be the first time a new collection by Mr Vickers will be unveiled here since the Vancouver Series in 1988, which included the iconic and much beloved depiction of Siwash Rock. The program begins at 11.00am on the 6th, and folks will have the chance to buy prints, as well as books signed by Vickers and his co-author Robert Budd. The book incidentally is from Harbour Publishing. Roy Henry Vickers is an important leader in the First Nations community. He is an artist, carver, speaker, and an advocate of recovery from addictions and abuse. He has received many awards including the Order of British Columbia, and the Order of Canada. We’ll reflect on the life and art of Roy Henry Vickers, and the forthcoming event, as he joins me now from here in Vancouver. His website is at www.royhenryvickers.com [3]. I’m very pleased to welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, Roy Henry Vickers; Mr. Vickers, good morning.
