Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver at TheCommentary.ca.

We discuss music now, with Barry Kolman. He’s the music director and conductor of The Shenandoah Symphony Orchestra in Lexington, and an associate professor of music at Washington and Lee University. He’s also a renowned guest conductor of various orchestras around the world. We’ll talk about music and his recent book, The Language of Music Revealed. It teaches the reader how to read, write and appreciate music. One of the things I want to talk to Mr. Kolman about is music and what he’s gained from it with regards to one of his kids, a daughter who’s autistic. He’s a recording artist too.
